Moving A Mountain

Main access road preparation

Main access road preparation

For the last couple of months our contractors have completed their site preparations, including removal of vegetation and scrub, and are now commencing the huge task of ‘moving a mountain’ of earth to re-model the 6½ acres of hillside into three flat plateaus of buildable land, interconnected by access roads.

Our contractor's team busily forming the lower plateau from the former hillside.

This task involves ‘cut and fill’ operations by large construction plant and the movement of 1,000’s of tons of earth and clay to model the contours and embankments of the three plateaus.

Once the plateaus have been formed, the next stage involves the construction of roads, parking places, vehicle turning areas, pathways, installation of street lighting and mains services up to each building plot.

Our target is to have the lower plateau ready to hand over plots to freehold purchasers by the end of March 2015, so they can commence construction of their buildings and landscaping. The middle and upper plateaus are targeted to be ready for hand over by the end of June 2015.

Interest from potential freehold purchasers has been brusque and some are already underway with conveyancing and commissioning the design and specifications for their new units. These ‘early birds’ have been able to pick and choose their plot positions and state their preferences for plot dimensions and shapes. As far as possible, we will try to accommodate individual preferences for plot size and position for each purchaser, but this is subject to space availability and the piecing together of a ‘jigsaw’ to maximise use of the land available.
